In the many years I've known Joy he let me buy lunch . . . once.

Found out from a good friend who had lunch with Joy who "Sid the Kid" was. (BTW, Joy bought). Turns out it was a crew member named Larry Conger. He got the nickname from the movie "el Cid" from 1961 starring Charleton Heston and Sophia Loren. When Herman, who didn't know the history, did the car he spelled it Sid. According to Joy he wasn't a great mechanic by any means but Herman put him on the car because he was on the crew. DAR on the other hand was fantastic and could make parts from Joy's description. No drawings or measurements. He just knew what Joy was looking for. I think he was a pattern maker at GM.

It just blows my mind the kind of memory these race drivers have after all these years.

Does anyone have a picture of the yellow #799 Ford that Joy won the track championship at Flat rock in 1965? I think it was a '58 ford.
