Johnny, I'm sure we've met somewhere. Maybe Daytona, can't think. However, I did flag at Nashville, Bristol, Coeburn (VA), Jefferson (GA) as well as at Atlanta when I was with ASA.

The ARCA race at Louisville Downs was a great experience. I had no trouble working from the track, and actually loved it. I worked TQ midgets on short dirt tracks that way, as well as the Figure 8 at Louisville the same way, and a few indoor races.

In one of my last years, at Charlestown, Ind., while my son was learning to flag, an insurance man paid a visit while we were running the Figure 8 and about had a stroke. He told Andy Vertrees, the promoter, that we couldn't do that. Andy told him I had been doing it for almost 30 years. Turned out the insurance man and I were actually friends, and he said, "OK, but when John retires, that's it!" My son was not happy.

I write a weekly column, "Driven to the Past" on frontstretch.com during the NASCAR season, and I did one on that race this season. E-mail me at indybigjohn@roadrunner.com and I'll send you a copy of it as soon as I can run it down in my files.

I saw you in chat during the radio show and saw what you wrote about a car you are working on...that is exciting! I knew you were gonna be working on a car but I didn't know you were going to bring it to Columbia. :)
I am looking forward to seeing it and meeting you in person.
Have a good night and a great day tomorrow.

There's a song in there somewhere Johnny. All us kats do have a lot in common.I wouldn't be surprised if you hadn't met old Johnny Sellers from Spartanburg back then.I'll try to get him on the phone this weekend.

My older brother Johnny is still in Spartanburg. He was born in 1940 and he was a speed demon. There's not anyone in spartanburg that had anything to do with racing or building cars back then that Johnny doesn't know. He used to talk about it all the time but I wasn't interrested in it then. A tape recorder is a good idea.I'll get in touch with him soon and see what kind of a mood he's in. He's old, rich, and pretty much does what he wants to. I think I'm still his favorite brother. There were eight of us boys.

Thanks again Johnny.I'll dive in one day when I know more what I'm talking about. I've got to talk to my big brother in Spartanburg so I can tell his stories.I'm going to try to get him on here, but he's 10 years older than me, and doesen't do much on computers. This site might just do it though.

Thanks Johnny. Not only did Jimmy let me climb in, he also let me ignite the engine. Felt like I was starting a jet up! We had a good day at the festival. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Johnny,
Tommie Clinard is a wonderful individual. He has had some health issues of late but they will not keep him down. He was at the very first memorial placement here in Augusta and was instrumental in getting funding for that placement.

10-4 on the diet Johnny. There are several in the picture that you probably don't know. Some are from the Atlanta area. But a few you will know other than the beard and fat. ha. Tommie
